2024 B. FRANK STRICKLAND MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP AT ABAC

In 2002, a scholarship was established by the Georgia Farm Bureau and the Georgia Commodity Comission for Tobacco at Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College Foundation in memory of the late B. Frank Strickland, Sr., a Lanier County farmer and a devoted advocate for tobacco farmers.  The $1000 B. Frank Strickland Scholarship will be presented to an entering freshman or rising sophomore from a tobacco-producing county who plans to attend ABAC fall semester. The scholarship will be paid at the beginning o the fall semester by the ABAC Foundation.

A native of Lanier County, Strickland graduated from Lakeland High School and ABAC.  After college, he returned home and took over the family farm at the age of 19.  He raised his family on the 450-acre farm that had been in his family for over 100 years.  The ABAC Alumni Association awarded Strickland the Master Farmer in 1975.  His son, Ben F. Strickland, Jr., was named Master Farmer in 1996, making them the only father/son recipients of this award.

“Mr. Frank,” as he was known throughout the state, served on the Georgia Farm Bureau Board of Directors for 27 years and served as vice president for 12 years.  He also served on the Georgia Commodity Commission for Tobacco for 20 years and the Flue-cured Tobacco Stabilization Corporation board for 18 years.   He served the agricultural community well and represented tobacco with pride.  His honesty, integrity and character set him apart.  It is the purpose of this scholarship to honor the achievements of a great American for years to come in helping to further the education of students seeking a career in agriculture.

Students submitting an application must be an applicant/attendee of Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College, a graduation high school senior/entering freshmen or rising sophomore in good standing with the college, resident of a tobacco-producing county in the state of Georgia, and majoring in agriculture or a related degree, with a minimum 3.0 GPA.
